WellSpan Health announced today that WellSpan York Hospital physician Erik Kochert, M.D., has been named the 2017 Emergency Physician of the Year by the Pennsylvania College of Emergency Physicians (PACEP).
The award “recognizes emergency clinicians of unusual merit who pursue the ideal of emergency medicine,” and serve as an emergency physician role model and an effective patient advocate, according to PACEP. Award criteria include practicing and promoting high quality emergency medical care and active community service and education.
“Dr. Kochert is a physician who goes above and beyond to help patients,” said Karen Jones, M.D., senior vice president, WellSpan Health, and president, WellSpan Medical Group. “He administers exceptional care with compassion, integrity and respect. This is an honor that is well-deserved.”
Kochert is an emergency department physician who currently serves as WellSpan York Hospital’s interim director of emergency medicine. He formerly served as the hospital’s director of research in emergency medicine.
“I was surprised and honored by the recognition,” said Kochert. “I work alongside a great team with strong leadership, and I share this honor with them. Great emergency care takes a team effort.”
Kochert has been a member of the WellSpan York Hospital medical staff since 2009. He received his medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, and served a residency at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del.
He serves as chair of PACEP’s Governmental Affairs Committee and is an active member of the York County and Pennsylvania medical societies.
Kochert will be recognized as the 2017 Emergency Physician of the Year at PACEP’s Scientific Assembly’s Awards Dinner, which will be held April 6 in Pittsburgh.
He is the latest WellSpan physician to receive a statewide honor. Last year, WellSpan Medical Group physician Chris Echterling, M.D., was named the 2016 Family Physician of the Year by The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians.
