WellSpan Medical Group urging parents to contact health care provider to meet new state immunization requirements for school-age children

Thursday, July 27, 2017

Due to recent changes in Pennsylvania’s immunization requirements for school-age children, the WellSpan Medical Group is urging parents to contact their child’s primary care provider as soon as possible to ensure their child is vaccinated before the start of the school year.

Under the new statewide requirements, school-age children must obtain all required vaccinations within the first five days of school. Students who do not have the proper vaccines, medical plans or exemptions may be excluded from school.

Parents who are unsure of the requirements or which vaccines their child may need are also urged to call their pediatrician, family doctor or advanced practice clinician.

“We know getting ready for the school year can be busy for parents,” said Karen Jones, M.D., senior vice president, WellSpan Health, and president, WellSpan Medical Group. “This is why our medical group is urging parents to contact our offices to schedule appointments or ask questions as soon as possible, and avoid delays. Our dedicated staff and clinicians across WellSpan are here to help parents and their families meet the new deadline.”
