Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
I chose to go into medicine after helping family members deal with chronic illnesses. I have been in nursing for 17 years, enjoying caring for patients and families. During my nursing career, I also worked as a SAFE nurse, taking care of victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse. Most recently, I became a nurse practitioner, so I could directly impact patients' care. I enjoy caring for the whole patient and their family—empowering patients and improving their overall health. Family practice allows me to take care of infants to elderly and treat all illnesses.
What I want my patients to know about me:
Taking care of families and patient relationships is a major part of what I do. I enjoy taking care of the whole patient—medical, psychological, in a holistic manner. I also empower patients to take an active part in their care and maintaining their health. Encouraging safe relationships and healthy parenting is an important part of my care. I feel I am very honest with my patients, but also respect their choices.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
I enjoy spending time with my two growing boys. I love outdoor activities, including walking, kayaking, fishing. Most of my outside activities revolve around family. I am involved in a local church and a variety of interest groups. I enjoy crocheting, cooking, and reading. If I'm not at work, I would love to be at the beach!
