Fund created to help cover patient medical expenses

WellSpan York Cancer Center leaders were recently presented with a check for $20,000 from Pink Power founder Denise DelGrosso Gilliland. The gift helps WellSpan establish a new “Pink Power Fund” to cover medical expenses for York County breast cancer patients.

“Financial hardship should not get in the way of receiving the care you need,” Gilliland said. “This fund is meant to ease the burden for patients in need.”

Gilliland was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. She has since turned her attention to helping those on their own journey to defeat the disease. The money was raised at the second annual Pink Power Girls Night Out fundraiser in October.

“I come from a family who always taught me to help others in need and to use my life as an opportunity to give back,” she said.

The organization will also purchase $4,000 worth of books for newly diagnosed patients at the WellSpan York Cancer Center.

Patients who qualify under the WellSpan Financial Assistance Policy are eligible to use the funds to cover out-of-pocket expenses for diagnostic screenings and treatments. For more information, visit WellSpan.org/FinancialAssistance.

WellSpan York Cancer Center offers a full spectrum of state-of-the-art cancer treatment and supportive services under one roof. Services include radiation therapy, medical oncology, surgical services, and outpatient infusion services. For more information, visit WellSpan.org/YorkCancer.
