WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital department one of just five across country to earn nursing award

Monday, March 25, 2019

The pre-op department of WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital is among just five departments across the country to earn a prestigious award from a national nursing certification board.

The American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification (ABPANC) recognized the York County hospital with its 2019 Certification Achievement Award for having 100 percent of eligible perianesthesia nurses earn the CPAN and/or CAPA certification. These nurses are certified in their perianesthesia specialty as either a Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) or a Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA).

“Our patients – many of whom have altered functional abilities and have been living with pain – inspire our clinical teams to strive for excellence in their profession,” said Barbara Yarrish, senior vice president, WellSpan Health, and president, WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital. “This achievement is representative of our perianesthesia nurses’ unwavering commitment to provide the highest level of care to our patients in the area.”

The certification process for each nurse requires detailed criteria involving clinical experience, as well as passing a written exam.

WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital opened in 2012 and has since been honored with numerous awards and accreditations. The state-of-the-art facility offers advanced orthopedic, spine and neurological surgery procedures, as well as both inpatient and specialized outpatient rehabilitation services.
