Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:
Medicine and global mission work were two interests of mine at a young age. I finally realized that they go hand-in-hand, and I do not have to choose one. At a young age I knew I wanted to become a physician. I also knew I wanted to help those who were less fortunate to learn about their health, their bodies, and how to take care of themselves. Through medicine, I can help people here, as well as in countries abroad. Teaching preventive medicine to populations in impoverished countries is one of my goals.
What I want my patients to know about me:
I enjoy the continuity I have with my patients. The physician-patient relationship is very important to me, a relationship where trust goes both ways. I am hopeful my patients feel like they can be open and honest with me and trust that I will make decisions and provide treatment and advice that is in their best interests.
What I do when I'm not seeing patients:
At work, when I am not seeing patients, I may be working with medical students or working on a global health track curriculum for our residents. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my children, whether it is coloring, painting, taking walks, or going swimming. I also enjoy working with my husband, family, and friends on planning charity events for different causes; Operation Christmas Child is one of my favorite annual events! I also enjoy travelling to Guatemala on short-term medical missions trips.
