Whatever your interests and talents, we have the right volunteer position for you. You can make a difference in the lives of our patients and families in the communities we serve.

At WellSpan, adults and teens experience the gift of giving every day as volunteers. Many of them find the experience so rewarding that they make a long-term commitment to volunteering. Several have logged more than 1,000 hours doing what they love in the community.

Types of volunteer positions

Volunteer positions can include:

patient contact: providing patient concierge services, patient aid and pampering
courier/messenger: delivering flowers, e-greetings, mail, medical records or patient supplies
administrative support: filing, mailing, assembling packets, data entry and copying
public contact: acting as a greeter, information desk attendant or receptionist
community outreach: representing WellSpan at health fairs and conducting educational outreach
patient/family advisor: partnering with staff and physicians to improve care and services at WellSpan
pet therapy volunteer (dogs): working with a WellSpan-approved pet therapy organization

We follow our regulatory agency requirements for volunteer onboarding. These requirements include:

criminal background checks and child abuse clearance verifications (state and federal)
at least 16 years of age
100 hours of service within the first 12 months of starting
dependable, responsible, friendly demeanor
immunization/vaccine requirements (including annual flu vaccination)
personal reference checks
annual requirements (including education and infection control)

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

When we receive your application, we’ll review it to determine whether you’re eligible. If you meet the initial requirements, we’ll email you to schedule an orientation session.

Once you’ve completed orientation, we’ll schedule an interview with you to determine your volunteer position and discuss other requirements such as health screening, criminal background checks and reference verifications.

Typically, applicants start volunteering six to eight weeks after they’ve been approved. The exact date depends on various things like orientation scheduling, additional training needs, criminal background check results and health screening requirements.
