WellSpan Health announces new vice president to lead philanthropy, development

Wednesday, July 12, 2017

Jason Trout has been named WellSpan Health’s vice president for Philanthropy and chief development officer.

WellSpan Health announced today that Jason Trout has been named vice president of Philanthropy and chief development officer for WellSpan Health.

Trout had previously served as WellSpan’s regional chief development officer for Lancaster and Lebanon counties. In his new role, Trout leads all foundation and fundraising programs across WellSpan. WellSpan’s philanthropy work is done through community-based foundations: Ephrata Community Health Foundation, Gettysburg Hospital Foundation, Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, WellSpan York Health Foundation and the WellSpan Philhaven development offices.

“As one of the region’s leading charitable health systems, we are focused on ensuring the communities we serve in Adams, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties are healthy and have access to the very best care close to home. Donors in each of these communities have been generous in their support of WellSpan’s efforts to improve community health through both clinical and educational initiatives,” said Maria Royce, senior vice president, strategy and market development and chief strategy officer, WellSpan Health. “Jason’s experience and leadership in philanthropy and team development will ensure strong donor stewardship and a continued focus on local philanthropy.”

As vice president of Philanthropy and chief development officer, Trout leads the development efforts of WellSpan's community-based foundations and development offices, which work to improve the health of local communities by supporting WellSpan’s nonprofit charitable mission.

Trout has 25 years of senior leadership experience in the health care field. He had previously served as vice president of development and community affairs at Good Samaritan Hospital, prior to the hospital’s affiliation with WellSpan in July 2015.

Trout is a graduate of York College of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

“I am proud to work with the dedicated philanthropy staff and volunteer teams throughout WellSpan in sharing the value of outstanding health in the communities we serve,” Trout said. “WellSpan believes in building local systems of care, and we apply that same philosophy to philanthropy – where local donations stay local to support hospital and community health efforts.”
