For 2023 a new board chair and vice chair will oversee the WellSpan Central Region Board of Directors, serving WellSpan York Hospital and WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital. Neil Slenker, Esq., a partner at Stock and Leader, Attorneys at Law, in York has been appointed to chair the board. Cheryl Thompson, D.N.P., R.N., will serve as vice chair. Thompson recently retired from York College of Pennsylvania as a professor of nursing and is currently a nursing education consultant.
"Neil's prior leadership as vice chair has positioned him well to guide our board as we navigate priorities for the York area and ensure the safe, high-quality care our communities deserve," said Victoria Diamond, senior vice president for the central region of WellSpan Health and president, WellSpan York Hospital. "With the addition of Cheryl as vice chair, the board's focus on re-imagining healthcare by delivering on high-quality affordable care will continue to guide our efforts and I know that this is the right group of leaders to achieve those goals."
Slenker has practiced law at Stock and Leader for nearly 30 years, holding leadership roles within the firm. He holds membership in numerous community organizations and has previously served on the board for organizations like the United Way of York County, as well as Martin Library Association and the York County Bar Association. Slenker earned his law degree at The Dickinson School of Law.
Thompson began her career in intensive care nursing before moving into nursing academia. She continues to teach doctoral level population health courses and provides nursing education consultation specific to nursing licensing exam success. During her tenure at York College, she developed and directed nurse-managed wellness centers where services were provided to low-income York city residents.
