The WellSpan Spotlight

West Drive project to temporarily impact traffic flow

Beginning the week of September 23, an additional portion of West Drive adjacent to the South parking garage on the WellSpan York Hospital campus will close for a period of 6-8 weeks so construction crews can install underground utility lines that will serve the new Surgical and Critical Care Tower.

The project will impact vehicle traffic in two ways:

Emergency Department Traffic Flow

Instead of accessing the Emergency Department directly via the ED circle entrance for patient drop-off and pick-up, vehicles will be guided by large signage and flaggers to access the ED entrance via an entrance lane on the ambulance ramp. Vehicles will then pass the ambulance parking area and follow the ED circle.

After patient pick-up or drop-off, vehicles will be guided to exit the ED circle, pass back through the ambulance parking area, and then exit via an exit lane on the ambulance ramp.

South Parking Garage Traffic Flow

Note: The following traffic flow changes will not impact WellSpan York Hospital team members who are permitted to park in Lot 6 and 7 in the South parking garage.

To access the patient and visitor parking area within the South parking garage, vehicles will be guided by large signage to use the access road along the west length of the garage to enter at the Lot 6 staff entrance. For the duration of the West Drive closure, the Lot 6 entrance will be shared by staff, patients and visitors. Temporary signage will be installed to identify the shared entrance.

The dedicated staff parking areas on Lot 6 and Lot 7 will not be affected. To ensure the safety of all pedestrians, Lower-level staff parking (Lot 5) must be closed during the utility line project. To offset some of the displaced spaces in Lot 5, the valet parking area on Lot 7 will temporarily be made available to staff.
