As the dominant health care provider to a diverse population of 520,000 people, WellSpan York Hospital presents a unique advantage for those considering residency here.
To meet the full range of demands of our community, we share an institution-wide commitment to excellence and innovation.
WellSpan York Hospital is a 575-bed community teaching hospital. Our residencies encompass a comprehensive range of medical and dental education and integrate more than 200 students each year as part of our affiliation with the University of Pennsylvania and University of Maryland Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, and Penn State University at Hershey.
These residency programs involve almost 110 graduate physicians and dentists. We also offer a multifaceted program of continuing medical and dental education.
Medical and dental students who choose WellSpan York Hospital for their residency programs benefit from our active medical staff, including primary care and referral practitioners in practically all recognized specialty areas.
Consider, too, that more than 80,000 patients pass through the doors of our emergency department and outpatient department, affording each resident a broad range of clinical exposure. In addition, WellSpan York Hospital is the area’s Emergency Medical Resource Center and an accredited Regional Trauma Center.
WellSpan’s commitment to education
In addition to excellent clinical facilities, our campus features an education pavilion devoted to our educational components. The Robert L. Evans, MD, Education Pavilion houses classrooms, a 16,000-volume library, allied health education classroom-labs, a media services center and an auditorium.
The WellSpan Research Center houses the hub of a sophisticated computer network, enabling residents to pursue original research and analysis.
Our online reference library and research center provide access to a diverse collection of current dental, medical and other relevant reference materials, including both books and audiovisual materials. Dental holdings include current texts in each discipline of dentistry.
Current and back issues of major dental journals and a dental literature index are also readily accessible.
Scholarly activity
Our faculty and students have made research a priority, as evidenced by our archive of presentations and papers.
