Security enhancements at WellSpan facilities beginning the week of March 3, 2025
The safety and security of our team members and patients is our highest priority. We have implemented enhanced security measures across all WellSpan campuses and facilities.
We have designated specific entrances to our hospitals to ensure optimal safety for our team members, patients, and visitors. This includes closing certain entrances to limit access to our hospitals.
WellSpan patients and visitors should use the following entrances. WellSpan Emergency Departments remain accessible 24/7.
Apple Hill Medical Campus

We appreciate the understanding of our team members, patients and visitors as we make these changes. Patients and visitors can expect volunteers and security personnel to aid in direction to appropriate entrances in all our facilities where changes have occurred. Individuals with questions about access to a specific location are advised to contact that facility directly.
Patient visitation
WellSpan continues to allow open visitation of patients, except for patients who are COVID-19 positive or suspected of being positive pending test results.
COVID-19 positive or pending hospitalized patients may designate two support persons for visitation. Visitation by one designated support person at a time will be allowed. All approved visitors of COVID-19 patients will be provided with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that will be worn during the duration of the patient visit.
People who are sick or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (including fever, cough, and shortness of breath or difficulty breathing) should not visit patients.
Masking guidelines
We are committed to keeping our patients, visitors, and staff as healthy and safe as possible.
Due to the current community spread level of COVID-19 across South Central Pennsylvania, wearing a face mask in a WellSpan Health care facility is not required, with the following exceptions:
- when you are suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19
- for ten days following a high-risk exposure to COVID-19
- when visiting an immunocompromised patient
- in an area or department designated as requiring masks due to critical patient care
- in a county where COVID-19 transmission is high and masking is required by the Center for Disease Control & Prevention or the Pennsylvania Department of Health
- when cleared to return to work following a positive COVID-19 test until ALL symptoms are fully resolved
Wearing a mask is recommended:
- if you or a household member is considered at high risk for severe disease
- based on personal preference
