Our doctoral internship program offers rotations in inpatient, day hospital, intensive outpatient, outpatient and shared care settings. Our clients represent a diverse population, including children, adolescents, adults and older adults from urban, suburban and rural areas who comprise many ethnic groups and all socioeconomic classes.
A unique feature of our program is the opportunity for you to explore ways to integrate religion and spirituality into clinical practice with the faith-based populations we serve, including those from the local Plain communities (Amish, Mennonite, etc.).
You’ll gain experience in individual therapy, group psychotherapy, marital/family therapy, psychological assessment, consultation and other professional roles and activities. Opportunities are available for you to develop skills in areas of special interest. Additionally, educational seminars, professional readings and quality supervision are critical and valued components of the program.
We value the diversity of our communities. Our organization is committed to nondiscrimination in hiring practices and expanding the diversity of our workforce.
Our psychology internship program has recently expanded its training to increase awareness of systemic racism and white privilege, nurture a spirit of cultural humility and encourage action and advocacy toward changing unjust systems that disenfranchise, marginalize or cause inequity. Internship supervisors embrace these antiracism goals and are committed to our own personal and professional growth in this area.
Our psychology internship program is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) and follows APPIC policies regarding selection and training. Our program has been accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) Commission on Accreditation since 1989.
WellSpan Philhaven — Mt. Gretna is fully accredited by DNV. Conveniently located in the picturesque Lebanon Valley, 70 miles west of Philadelphia, the Mt. Gretna campus is our primary training site. It offers exceptional historical, cultural, recreational and professional opportunities.
