Women have unique needs when it comes to their health. Whether it's their heart, their breast care, their mental health, their birth experience, or any other concern, we provide leading-edge, compassionate care for women during all stages of life.
Here are just five ways we do it.
We offer state-of-the-art heart care.
More than 60 million women, or 44 percent of those in the U.S., are living with heart disease, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is the leading cause of death for women in the U.S. and can affect women at any age.
Women experience heart disease differently than men, so we are on the lookout for the sometimes subtler signs of heart disease in women, including back pain, jaw pain, and dizziness.
Even young, active women are not immune to heart problems. Just last year, our experts helped diagnose one potentially life-threatening cause of a third of heart attacks in women younger than 50.
We are leaders in the field and have adopted the latest in lifesaving treatments and technology to save lives. Our very own Dr. Rhian Davies recently participated in live case demonstrations streamed to other cardiologists across the globe in an event centered on the growing role of female interventional cardiologists performing complicated procedures.
We are experts at treating one of most common cancers in women.
Breast cancer accounts for one in three new cancers among women each year, according to the American Cancer Society. Women have a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer during their lives.
Early detection is crucial, so we are working to make mammograms more available to all women. That means educating women to start getting mammograms at age 40 (or earlier if you have certain risk factors), reducing any financial barriers, and making it easier to schedule and get a mammogram, including in our giant pink and blue mobile mammography motor coach that travels around the region.
We understand that each woman is unique and so is her breast cancer treatment. The diagnosis, typing and staging, and treatment will be tailored specifically to you.
This is also why we assign you a breast navigator, someone to walk beside you and offer individualized support during your journey.
We give the right care at the right place and the right time for your mental health.
Each year, one in five U.S. women will experience a mental health challenge such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, an eating disorder, or anxiety, according to the American Psychiatric Association. Twice as many women experience depression in their lifetime as men, and women also twice as likely as men to experience a generalized anxiety disorder.
This is just one reason why we are increasing our investment into behavioral health services to meet these needs, via therapy, inpatient support, and other services at 50 programs offered at almost 30 locations.
We provide award-winning care for growing families.
Some couples need help to begin their families. In fact, one in six people around the world are affected by infertility, according to the World Health Organization.
That is why we have entered into a partnership with Shady Grove Fertility Center to help couples with reproductive therapy, donation, and surrogacy services.
And when families happily welcome a baby, we want to keep the happy times coming so we provide award-winning, safe, high-quality maternity care, recognized by both U.S. News & World Report also noted by Leapfrog and Money.
All of our hospitals are certified in the safest sleep practices, and in turn provide education to families, making sure they are putting babies in bed the right way when they return home.
We know that wellness is a journey.
Because we want women to be their best selves, we offer a variety of wellness classes, both in-person and virtual, teaching yoga, whole person wellbeing, mental wellbeing, balance, and others.
