WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital recognized as Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence

Continuing its commitment to high-quality care, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital is the first hospital or facility in central Pennsylvania to be recognized as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR). It represents ACR’s highest achievement for medical imaging facilities.

“This distinction demonstrates the ongoing efforts of our team members and health system to providing excellent imaging services and care to all of our patients in Ephrata and surrounding communities,” said Tina Citro, vice president, WellSpan Health; president, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.  “The dedication of this team is unmatched and I’m so proud to have their expertise honored in this way.”

“This recognition from the ACR is the culmination of a years-long endeavor and I’m excited for the team to be able to celebrate the hard work that went into it,” said Dr. Heidi Beilis, vice president and chief medical officer, WellSpan’s Diagnostic Service Line. “When patients require diagnostic imaging at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, they can be assured they have the very best care available to them.”

The DICOE achievement goes beyond accreditation to recognize best-quality imaging practices and diagnostic care. This includes a comprehensive assessment of the entire medical imaging enterprise, including structure and outcomes. The DICOE designation recognizes excellence at multiple levels — including the professional staff, the technology and the policies and procedures the organization follows — and superior patient care. Currently, only 755 hospitals and imaging facilities have earned this achievement nationwide. To put that into perspective, there are more than 7,000 hospitals and nearly 19,000 imaging facilities nationwide, according to data analysts at Definitive Healthcare. WellSpan is working to expand this distinction across its other facilities in the health system.

In order to receive this elite distinction, facilities must be accredited by the ACR in all modalities they provide, and in which the ACR offers an accreditation program. To learn more about other recent recognitions related to WellSpan’s high-quality care, visit www.WellSpan.org/Quality.
