WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital was selected as the winner in the Workforce Resiliency category for addressing and improving team member safety through the organization’s Safe to Care initiative that launched in December 2022. The effort involved implementing a comprehensive strategic plan to revamp the hospital security team to better reflect its mission, adding signage at the hospital outlining unacceptable behaviors, new workplace-violence related policies, new safety equipment, team member training and renewed relationships with area law enforcement agencies.
“With patient and team member safety always our top priority, we are incredibly proud to be recognized as a Health Quality Innovator of the Year highlighting this important effort,” said Matt Exley, director of public safety for WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital. “This recognition underscores the importance of supporting our team members, whose resilience and dedication drive the care we provide to our community.”
Since the program was launched, team members have suffered no workplace injuries that resulted in lost time performing their duties.
This award’s Workforce Resiliency category recognizes the efforts of organizations committed to implementing initiatives or programs within their organization aimed at reducing burnout, increasing workforce wellness, improving retention and reducing turnover.
