Play cornhole! York Revs visit is therapy for WellSpan patients

Ahead of their home opener, the York Revolution baseball team – including team mascot, Downtown – visited rehabilitation patients and team members at WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital. Patients and players interacted and engaged in exercises that therapists and caregivers use to support patient recovery.

The York Revolution team engaged with WellSpan rehabilitation patients and WellSpan team members to further emphasize the importance of continued exercise, a message that caregivers at the facility instill in patients before discharging home.

WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital provides a unique setting with indoor and outdoor activities to assist caregivers in conducting guided therapy exercises. Recreational therapists guided patients and Revolution team members through various engaging exercises inside and outside. Outdoor activities included horticulture therapy, surface garden exploration, cornhole, basketball, and golf.

"Watching the York Revolution team members engage in our therapy exercises was incredibly uplifting," said Haley Smith, recreational therapist at WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital. "The joy and laughter during the activities were just as healing as the exercises. Their participation not only brought happiness to our patients, but it also highlighted the crucial role these activities play in recovery and overall well-being."
