Dr. Linda Pugh is a retired professor of nursing, most recently at the University of North Carolina Wilmington's School of Nursing. She taught and led nursing programs at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and York College of Pennsylvania. As a certified obstetric nurse, she provided care for women for over 25 years. Recently, most of her scholarship has revolved around implementing best practices in health care.
Dr. Pugh has significant research experience. She has been the principal investigator (PI) and Co-PI in several NIH funded studies - the largest involving a community-based team of public health nurses and peer counselors. has This study, conducted over a four-year period, tested an intervention to increase duration and exclusivity of breastfeeding among low-income women.
As one of the developers of the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidenced-based Practice models, Linda has worked with nurses across the nation on its implementation. Dr. Pugh also has had developed and revised the Theory of Unpleasant Symptoms that has been used by researchers in the United States and abroad. Linda has published and presented her work internationally and nationally.
