What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a safe and effective form of body sculpting that can remove stubborn body fat. Common treatment areas are thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, arms and neck/chin. The procedure involves minimally invasive incisions where fat is gently removed with a suction, resulting in a slimmer, more contoured look.

What to expect with liposuction
Before liposuction
- You may need a lab test or a medical evaluation.
- You may have to take medications or adjust your current medications.
- Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding.
- Arrange for someone to drive you home and stay with you for at least the first night.
During liposuction
- The procedure is outpatient and normally takes between one and two hours.
- You may be awake with localized anesthesia or asleep with general anesthesia.
After liposuction
- You'll have dressings or bandages on your incisions.
- You'll wear an elastic bandage, support bra or a compression garment to minimize swelling and support your body as it heals.
- Depending on your procedure, you may have drainage tubes.
- Pain, swelling and bruising is normal (medication may be required).
- Your activity will be limited for the first few weeks.
- Usually after a month and a half, your symptoms will subside and you'll start to see your final results.
- Final results can take 6+ months to see due to swelling.
