Educational leave

Leave of absence
- WellSpan’s leave of absence policy applies to all residents and fellows.
- Family medical leave will be provided for up to 12 weeks.
- Short-term disability will be provided.
403(b) Retirement Benefits
- Beginning January 1, 2025, residents will be eligible to receive the employer matching and nonelective contributions from WellSpan – providing up to 6% of pay being deposited into residents’ 403(b) plans per year
- Non-elective contributions do not require enrollment in the 403b plan, but residents must complete one year of service and 1,000 hours worked to be eligible.
- Employer Match: 50% on the first 4% of compensation
- Non-elective: 4% of compensation
Malpractice insurance
WellSpan will provide you with malpractice insurance.
Health insurance
We offer the following health plans:
- WellSpan Plus (POS/PPO)
- WellSpan Standard (POS/PPO)
- WellSpan High Deductible (HDHP)
You'll pay a portion of the premium.
Other insurances
- We provide dental and vision insurance. You'll pay a portion of the premium.
- You'll receive free disability and term life insurance.
- We offer voluntary group auto, home and pet insurance with easy access and competitive rates.
Living quarters
- On-call quarters are furnished in the hospital.
- You're responsible for arranging your permanent residence.
Meals
- You’ll receive a swipe card on July 1.
- Dental residents will receive $1,680 per academic year (July 1 through June 30) for meals.
- All other residents and fellows will receive $2,400 per academic year (July 1 through June 30) for meals.
Childcare referral service
Our contracted vendor can assist you if you need childcare in the community.
Laundry
- Lab coats are provided.
- We’ll launder lab coats for free per OSHA regulation.
Parking
Parking is free for residents and fellows.

You'll have the benefit of professional librarians, free literature searches and 24-hour access.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
You and your immediate family members will have access to confidential counseling.
