Pharmacy Residency – WellSpan York Hospital

Preceptors

Karen Frock, PharmD, BCCCP, received her Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 2000. She completed a PGY-1 and a PGY-2 residency in critical care at WellSpan York Hospital.

After completion of residency training, she began clinical practice in the trauma and surgical ICUs at WellSpan York Hospital. Her practice involves providing pharmacotherapy for patients with traumatic injury, as well as for surgical critical care patients. In addition to being a supervisor and Residency Program Director for the PGY-2 program, Karen serves as preceptor for the trauma surgical ICU rotation for PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents. She also precepts the PGY-2 longitudinal drug information, teaching and practice administration and staffing experiences.

Karen is involved with various hospital committees, including WellSpan Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Drug Shortage, Trauma Performance Improvement, Trauma Guidelines, Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS), Critical Care Operations and Blood Utilization Review. She received the 2009 Pennsylvania Society of Health-system Pharmacists Joe E. Smith Award.

Alison Sabados, PharmD, BCCCP, received her Doctorate in Pharmacy from Wilkes University in 2011. Ali completed her PGY-1 and PGY-2 critical care residencies at WellSpan York Hospital.

Following residency training, Ali began clinical practice with cardiothoracic surgery in 2013 and currently rounds with the interdisciplinary teams in the cardiac and open-heart ICUs. She is also involved in the WellSpan Critical Care Steering Committee, Heart Failure, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Steering Committees. Ali serves as a Supervisor for the department and Residency Program Director for the PGY-1 program.

She precepts the consult orientation, cardiology and cardiovascular ICU rotations for PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents.

Molly Walbrown, PharmD, BCPS, CACP, CDE, graduated from West Virginia University School of Pharmacy in 2004. She completed her pharmacy practice residency with an emphasis in ambulatory care at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System at the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. She joined the WellSpan York Hospital pharmacy team in 2005 and currently serves as a preceptor for PGY-1 residents during their ambulatory care rotation.

Molly’s unique role expands beyond WellSpan York Hospital into the outpatient area, where she provides clinical pharmacy services to diverse and underserved patients in the community. As a Certified Diabetes Educator, she served as chair of the systemwide WellSpan Diabetes Clinical Effectiveness Team from 2007 to 2017. Awards she has won include WellSpan Health Outstanding Educator in 2006, WellSpan Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year in 2015 and a WellSpan Patient Safety Award in 2017.

Brittany Thomas, PharmD, BCPS, BCIDP, received her Doctorate in Pharmacy from Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy in 2016. She completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at WellSpan York Hospital.

After completion of residency training, she began practice as a clinical pharmacist at WellSpan York Hospital and joined the antimicrobial stewardship team in 2018. Her practice involves optimizing antimicrobial regimens for patients throughout the hospital and assisting in various stewardship initiatives. She serves as a preceptor for the infectious disease core and elective rotations.

Brittany is involved with various hospital committees, including WellSpan Formulary Committee and the System-Wide Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee.

Chelsea Laughner, PharmD, BCPS, received her Doctorate in Pharmacy from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy in 2016. She completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at WellSpan York Hospital.

After completion of residency training, she began practice as a clinical pharmacist at WellSpan York Hospital and transitioned into a critical care role in 2021. Chelsea serves as a preceptor for the medical ICU rotation for PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents and coordinates the emergency/code simulation lab experience.

She is involved in various committees, including WellSpan Formulary Committee, Centralized Order Set Committee and York Hospital Resuscitation Committee.

Christine Higgins, RPh, BCPS, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1994. She started her career in the community setting before transitioning to hospital pharmacy in 2001.

Christine has been with WellSpan York Hospital since 2005, working in various clinical roles including the pain management team and rounding with family medicine. She precepts PGY-1 residents for their required family medicine rotation.

Alyssa Robertson, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP, BCEMP, received her degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 2012. She completed a PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency at CJW Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, and a PGY-2 critical care residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Within her practice of emergency medicine, Alyssa’s clinical interests include sepsis management, acute resuscitation, stroke management, and toxicologic emergencies. Alyssa serves as preceptor for the PGY-1 and PGY-2 required and elective emergency medicine rotations. She was awarded Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year by the 2023-2024 residency class.

Alyssa is involved with various hospital committees, including Pharmacy Therapeutics and Formulary Committee, Drug Shortage, Stroke Clinical Effectiveness Committee, and others. She is an active member of the York Hospital Emergency Medicine Research group, with several ongoing active projects. In addition to her current role and responsibilities, Alyssa is an active member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), for which she is chair-elect for the Emergency Medicine Practice and Research Network. She is also a member of the Academic Emergency Medicine Pharmacist (AEMP) group, part of the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM).

Matthew Walbrown, PharmD, graduated from West Virginia University (WVU) School of Pharmacy in 2004. He completed his PGY-1 pharmacy residency at WVU Hospital in 2005 and his PGY-2 critical care residency at WellSpan York Hospital in 2006. He worked at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for 15 years in critical care and administrative roles before returning to York Hospital in 2021.

Matt works in our emergency department and precepts PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents for their required and elective emergency medicine rotations.

Dalton Fishel, PharmD, BCCCP, received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy in 2017. Dalton completed his PGY-1 pharmacy residency and PGY-2 critical care residency at WellSpan York Hospital.

After completion of his residency training, Dalton served as a clinical pharmacist before helping extend emergency medicine pharmacy services to third shift. Currently, Dalton works as a clinical pharmacist and serves on the WellSpan System Formulary Committee.

Benson Mathew, PharmD, BCPS, received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Buffalo in 1997 and his Doctorate in Pharmacy from Shenandoah University in 2011.

Benson has been a clinical pharmacist at WellSpan York Hospital since 2006 and currently leads our pharmacy pain management team. He was awarded the Gita Wasan Patel Pharmacy Excellence Award from HealthTrust in 2018, along with other members of the York Hospital pain team, for innovative and high-level patient care they provide.

Benson shares his expertise with residents who choose to complete an elective pain management rotation.

Geoffrey Arentz, PharmD, BCPS, received his Doctorate in Pharmacy from Wilkes University in 2016. He completed his PGY-1 residency at WellSpan York Hospital in 2017.

After completion of his residency, he began working as a clinical pharmacist before transitioning into his current role as a supervisor for the pharmacy department. Geoffrey rounds with internal medicine and precepts residents and students. Geoffrey serves on the WellSpan System Formulary Committee.

Joseph DiBlasi, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, received his Doctorate in Pharmacy and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Maryland in 2014. He completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at West Virginia University.

After completion of residency training, he began practice as a clinical pharmacist at WellSpan York Hospital and transitioned into a critical care role in 2019. Joseph serves as a preceptor for the neuroscience intensive care unit (NSICU) rotation for PGY-1 (elective) and PGY-2 (required) residents.

He was voted preceptor of the year by the 2022-2023 residency class for his dedication and passion for teaching residents. Joseph is involved in various committees, including WellSpan Formulary Committee, Order Set Review and Patient Experience Council.

Theresa Langeheine, PharmD, BCPS, received her Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, her Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia.

Since joining WellSpan York Hospital in 1991, her practice has evolved, with a transition to behavioral health specialist pharmacist in 2022. The behavioral health pharmacist specialty position was new to the system; Theresa developed a program path and opportunities to provide care to patients admitted to behavioral health.

Theresa serves as a preceptor for the behavioral health rotation, which is an elective for PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents. She is involved in WellSpan Formulary, Order Sets Review, Epic Workflow Optimization and several perioperative committees.

Duy Nguyen, PharmD, BCPS, graduated from Temple University School of Pharmacy in Philadelphia. He completed his PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Virtua Health and afterward worked as a clinical pharmacist at Lankenau Medical Center with a focus on internal medicine, where he later developed and led a PGY-1 pharmacy residency program.

With the arrival of his daughter, Duy moved to Pennsylvania and joined the WellSpan York hospital pharmacy department covering distributive functions, internal medicine and NSICU. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and catching up on video games.

Karli Unick, PharmD, BCPS, received her Doctorate in Pharmacy from Shenandoah University in 2015. She completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at WellSpan York Hospital.

After completion of residency training, she transitioned into a clinical pharmacist position where she was able to develop and extend pharmacy services into the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Her practice involves providing pharmacotherapy for patients admitted to the NICU.

Karli serves as a preceptor for the NICU rotation, which is an elective for PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents. She also participates on interdisciplinary committees, including NICU Practice and Quality and Neonatal Care.

Yasmeen Al-Cheikh, PharmD, BCPS graduated from the Long Island University Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2018. Following graduation, she completed her PGY-1 residency at WellSpan York Hospital and stayed on as a clinical pharmacist thereafter.

Yasmeen serves the department in both clinical and distributive roles, including oncology, antimicrobial stewardship, and transitions of care. In addition to assisting with precepting in those areas, she assists residents with research projects and presentations.

Laurel Wentz, PharmD, BCPS graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 2008. She joined WellSpan York Hospital as a staff pharmacist and later transitioned to clinical pharmacist. In this role, she developed clinical pharmacy services in oncology. In 2021, Laurel joined a private oncology practice to establish pharmacy services and provide care for community oncology patients. Returning to WellSpan in 2024, she supports medical and oncology patients by participating in interdisciplinary rounds with the hospitalist service, coordinating care with pharmacy distributive operations, and working with the oncology team to ensure safe and effective chemotherapy regimens.

Laurel serves as preceptor for the oncology rotation, which is an elective for PGY-1 residents. She also participates on multiple committees and subgroups, including the Beacon Optimization Team and Treatment/Therapy Plan Review.

Ryan Sentz PharmD, received his Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. Joining WellSpan York Hospital in 2000, he started as a student intern, transitioned to a clinical pharmacist, then to a clinical coordinator and, most recently, to operations manager for the pharmacy department.

As manager of operations, he oversees all distributive operations for the department. Ryan works with residents during their administrative rotation and on various projects.

Rupal Amin-Anderson, PharmD, completed her pharmacy training at University of Maryland in 2003. She worked at Select Specialty Hospital before joining WellSpan in 2021.

Rupal serves as pharmacy operations supervisor and oversees distributive workflow daily. She precepts PGY-1 residents during their distributive orientation rotation and assists with their administrative experience and related projects.

Angela Ricci, PharmD graduated from Temple University School of Pharmacy in 2000. She started at York Hospital in 2002 and worked in various roles, including as a clinical pharmacist and member of the pain team. In 2017, Angie transitioned into a full-time distributive role on evening shift and serves as preceptor for the required PGY-1 longitudinal Distributive experience.
