Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:

I wanted to save lives, and in particular, to save people from disability from neurological problems. I knew that I wanted to be a neurosurgeon since I was 15. It is a great privilege to be a doctor, and a greater privilege still to be a surgeon who can help restore full life and function.

What I want my patients to know about me:

I believe that surgery should only be done when clearly necessary, and then only the minimal operation that will be effective and durable, through the smallest incision that can provide good access. On the other hand, it is important to make a correct diagnosis, and not miss problems that if left untreated can result in paralysis and other disability.

What I do when I'm not seeing patients:

I am mostly busy leading the Neuroscience Service Line at WellSpan. I stay up-to-date with medical literature, edit an international Neuroscience journal, and participate in international neurosurgical teaching and scientific activities.

This is one of the most unprofessional, it's Friday and you are my last appointment, hurry up and get out of here experience I was ever apart of. This doctor never seen me before and simply said in three minutes of meeting me, that I am not a candidate for surgery and there's nothing he can do for me. No discussion about any other treatment b possibilities that Wellspan could offer. Just stood up and opened the door and I left. 12 minutes flat from time I entered till I left. Doctors like him are what gives hospitals a bad name. I was really hoping to finally get relief and a treatment plan for my chronic pain in my neck and upper back. I will never schedule an appointment again on a Friday just to be shown the door for him to leave early. I can't not put it into words how unprofessional he was.
