I wanted to be a doctor from the age of three when I had pneumonia. My doctor had made me feel better, and I wanted to help people feel better. I pursued specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to practice medicine holistically. As a physiatrist here at WellSpan, I feel gratified by the opportunity of working with an interdisciplinary team of highly qualified professionals in Rehabilitation, Behavioral Health, the Center for Mind Body Health, and Nutrition just to name a few. I enjoy empowering patient in lifestyle change and in taking personal responsibility for their healing process.
I am a Reiki, meditation and Colorpuncture practitioner with extensive training in mindfulness, introspective and relaxation practices. I am training in Lifestyle Medicine and practice healthy eating, exercise, stress and sleep management, avoiding risky substances and positive social connections. My ultimate goal is to use my integrative health background to impact population health for chronic spine pain patients through patient education for self-care and wellness. I love the dynamics of group instruction and interaction. I hope to return soon to offering Shared Medical Appointments for chronic spine pain patients.
When I am not seeing patients you may find me teaching or taking a hot yoga class or enjoying cultural dance. You may find me combining my love of art and music while figure drawing at First Friday Jazz. I love to teach and share healthy lifestyles through writing self-help books, recording videos and audio. You may catch me doing health lectures for NAACP York Branch or York Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. You may see me mentoring junior or senior high school students with my sorority sisters, rite of passage society or as a community volunteer. You may catch me out on a hot date with my husband.

Dr. Bernal is one of the best most thorough knowledgeable caring doctors ever.
Detailed information and explanation regarding problem and resources to correct problems.Listened to my concerns. Gave information and resources.
Dr was pretty thorough and had several suggestions how to proceed. She centered on me which was nice. I hope together we can come up with a plan to help me feel better.
I feel extremely blessed to have Dr Bernal as my physician. She always takes time to answer my questions, even as we are wrapping up an appointment, she takes whatever time is needed to explain and encourage me toward my wellness.
I don't feel that she listens as well as she used to.
Thoughtful evaluation and recommendations
Very thorough and caring. Spent time reviewing my medical records prior to meeting me. I believe she is very knowledgeable.
Dr. Bernal is a wonderful doctor. She goes above and beyond to make sure things are as they should be. Ordering bloodwork that most doctors don't even think to order to get to the bottom of an issue.
The wait time was almost an hr. was told to be there at 1:00 - with 1:15 app. so it was around 2:00 till I saw dr.
