Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:

Growing up I dreamed of a career that combines science and human interaction. I found medicine to be the perfect combination that allows me to apply scientifically proven methods to impact patients' lives. My specialty addresses conditions that are not life threatening, but that negatively affect women's quality of life causing discomfort, distress and inability of perform or enjoy daily activities. I find gratitude in helping my patients feel better about themselves and see their quality of life improving. My best reward is when a patient tell me "you gave me my life back!"

What I want my patients to know about me:

I always take great care of my patients and treat them the same way I would treat my own sister or mother. I will always have their interests in mind. I respect their privacy, listen carefully to their concerns, meticulously review their medical history and perform a detailed examination in order to formulate an accurate diagnosis of their conditions. I spend ample time explaining the condition and discussing the treatment options using visual aids and educational handouts and I make sure to answer all of their questions to their satisfaction, while involving them in medical decision process.

What I do when I'm not seeing patients:

Outside of work, I enjoy playing music (percussion), staying in touch with friends and family, travel, and outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, and road trips. Although I found a new home in the USA, I travel to my native country Lebanon two to three times a year to visit my large family (I am one of 9 children, I have 4 nieces and nephews, and dozens of cousins). My mother has a special place in my heart as she dedicated her life to raising us with great values.

I felt he had excellent knowledge of the situation I have been experiencing. He had a very good game plan and did offer me other options. I'm thankful and appreciative he will be my surgeon. I appreciate his knowledge and education.

Dr. El-Khawand was a great doctor/surgeon from the first time I met him by his shaking my hand. Made me fill like I met him previously. He has a personality at each of my visit. He explained my medical problem very understandable for me. I would ask questions to him and he would take the time to answer my questions. The day I had my surgery, he came to see me in the prep room before surgery and again shaking my hand and made me feel at ease. Hopefully, I feel I won't need anymore surgeries, but if I do, I will contact Dr. El-Khawand. This was a good experience.

I feel he is knowledgeable, however, did not feel he listened to me and my concerns. I understand I'm a younger age range than might be seen in office. No one wants to be in that office and with my history of urological Issues from a very young age, it was triggering and a concern for me to be here again - but not heard. I took advice of provider and added additional steps to prove - disprove my concerns, sent photos following day of orange color urine soaked tampons. I received a missed call, no voicemail, no note in my chart, when I called back, following day I did receive I get a call from a very nice nurse, to schedule further testing. Which again, I indicated, shared during my appt as one of few concerns. It also would be nice to let the patient dress after exam, then share findings, next steps, it was uncomfortable, and already feeling unheard, fighting tears, half naked on table covered with sheet, would have made a little better experience, maybe.
