Description

Have you experience mental health concerns based on how others interact with you based on your sexual identity? Do you continue to experience discrimination or hate based on your LGBTQ+ status. Within "Affirmative Rainbow Group," many others express similar experiences. This group offers a safe, judgment-free zone where clients are taught skills to better manage a distressing experience. Clients are also taught interpersonal effectiveness to help manage conversations better in a social interaction. Most importantly, within the group, clients are taught emotion regulation skills to help protect their mental health after experiencing a draining interaction. Group sessions will focus on:

  • Emotion regulation skills to help return to baseline after being distressed
  • DBT skills to be mindful in the moment
  • Distress tolerance skills to help with impulse control and manage acute and chronic stress
  • Interpersonal effectiveness to help better manage social interactions

This is a 20-week, 1-hour group that will have certain days to admit clients. Group members must self-identify as LGBTQ+. Client cannot have active psychosis, active addiction, or active suicidal/homicidal thoughts. Client cannot be diagnosed with an anti-social personality disorder, have a IQ score below 70, or show symptoms of active physical or verbal aggression.
