Mental well-being
Being well goes beyond physical health alone. Mental health is critical to living a healthy life, and in recent years, mental well-being has emerged as a major community health issue.
Our communities are experiencing higher rates of despair, opioid and substance misuse and crisis events. While feelings of depression and grief are not always indicative of a mental health illness, we know there is opportunity to partner with the community to strengthen mental well-being and resiliency for all. Our county health coalitions, along with many community partners, embrace mental well-being as a community health priority. They share messages of hope, resiliency, and self-care through public campaigns along with local community-based mental health and crisis resources for those seeking care.
As one of the region’s largest providers of behavioral health services, we offer expert services to improve mental well-being — but we go beyond the doctor’s office by investing in community partners who share our mental well-being community health goals. For example, we are providing grants and education to equip first responders, caregivers, educators, and peers with tools to respond to crisis situations and practice self-care.
WellSpan has a deep commitment to advancing care and community partnerships to battle opioid/substance use disorder. We continue to expand our best practice work, engage with community partners, and implement innovative programs.
